The premise of the project is based on the fact that a city is always between a moment of decay and a moment of progress. Such, that history of a city, through its architectural manifestation, is never just a ruin from the past, but potential breeding ground for future to come. To build, or re-build parts of city with real estate tabula rasa vision is essentially breaking the linearity of history, forcing a handful of broken images of unreal city, detached from the present and past of existing cityscape.
The proposal of the project is to use Tate and Lyle sugar refinery in Silvertown, London, at the key moment which the refinery is still in production, but slowly stepping into obsolescence, Silvertown past its prime as the industrial district, taunted by the numerous master plans, this is the setting of the chosen testing ground for growing new urban typology.
