APPARATUS PRO URBANIS DOMICILIIS | VARIABLE COURTYARD URBANISM FOR URBAN VILLAGE HOUSING
The project seeks to create a new dense low rise urban fabric integrating qualities of traditional Chinese courtyard types, using a customised digital design and fabrication strategy. While remaining some of the basic principles found within the precedents Habitat'67 and Metastadt such as modular systems and prefabrication methods the project aims to break the repetitive aspects of prefabrication, moving towards mass customisation. The aim is to generate variable housing types allowing for diverse living conditions and the implementation of social scenarios within a regeneration strategy for the urban village. Rather than replacing the urban village with high rise gated communities I want to propose a clean, dense, low-rise urban fabric integrating many qualities of the thraditional Chinese urban village allowing for change, adaptation and growth within Chongqing's rapid changing cityscape.
