I believe the creator and possessor of these devices to be called the box woman.

The Framing Device: To isolate and accentuate the subjects on which it was solely focused, whilst critically retaining her disguise.

Periscope Up: A periscope to be used between floors, as a visual access means, whilst extending outside of her personal domain

The periscope around corner: This device provided a means to extend her personal domain behind her, visually accessing those around a corner. The device formed a connection point between her, the architecture and the viewed subject, isolating and accentuating the subjects on which it was solely focused, whilst critically retaining her disguise.

The box woman could not be seen.I assume her to be an invisible voyeur, obsessed with the act of capturing seemingly benign moments of others' existence and fixated by the connection created between the observed and the viewed. The integration of personal and hidden space lacking in social housing, a network of tunnels and hides to burrow furtively through the unsuspecting social block. The spaces allow for voyeuristic acts to occur through hidden openings, whilst also audibly and sensually connecting to the adjacent. The form and articulation of the voyeur's intention, to burrow furtively through the unsuspecting edifice.
The form and articulation of the voyeur's intention, to burrow furtively through the unsuspecting edifice.
Porcelain as a strategy to breakdown alienation in mass social housing. Allowing for the act of voyeurism between dwellings to connect with the adjacent. A visual attachment breaks down interior isolation. In seeing there is love,
In being seen there is abhorrence,
One grins trying to bear the pain of being seen,
But not just anyone can be someone who only looks.

If the one who is looked at looks back,
Then the one who was looking becomes the one who was looked at.

Kobo Abe Value accumulates through the contextual and materiality failure of the facade. The fragment has become a host for dependent inhabitations, creating a co-dependancy and allowing for value to accumulate through the materiality failure. Therefore it is not the preservation that is key, but controlled decay to integrate the isolated facade with value into its wider context. The ruin liberates function from its subservience to purpose.
The ruin liberates form from its subservience to function,
The ruin liberates matter from its subservience to form.
