In a long standing tradition of the City of London, being the pinnacle of power, manipulation, world changing finances this project reveals, exemplifies and critically articulates the sublime of the City of London Corporation as defined by Schopenhauer – amazingly beautiful but deeply threatening, and impossible to pinpoint.
The project is an intangible tower of fog set within the heart of the financial district, surrounded by the major global players in the trade of insurances and economic realities - beautiful, yet frighteningly overpowering at the same time; a non-icon for the secretive and manipulative City of London Corporation…which allows it to hide behind the icons of its very resident businesses.
The aim of this project is to find the role for architecture within the complex relationships between the Corporation, the City’s business world, and the people. In the last decade, these relationships and interaction have increasingly turned digital; and so the shifting shape of the tower will respond to these digital interactions, creating a physical manifestation of the complex relationship between the people, the businesses, and the powerful City of London Corporation.
