Re:Formation is acting in the domain of semiotics in architecture. It floats between the boundaries of the signified and the signifier, the social and the physical, while seeking to define, design and materialise the connection between them. The project is a behavioural laboratory that explores how groups and individuals would act in a given social scenario and how certain type of communication patterns could define their own unique spatial semiotics. A particular case study of an art gallery opening was chosen in order to initiate a framework that would inform the ‘data mode’. This 'data mode aims to be a digital simulation platform and acts as the organisational part of the project where the functional type (program) and the social type (behaviour) are melted into one. This generates volumetric layouts which are then examined and assessed until a final configuration has been determined. The form-based, morphological part of the project is the domain of the signifier - where the positional, spatial, dimensional and proportional aspects of the project take form, materialising into a structural skeleton as well as the inner and outer skin of the building.
